Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed the character. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let her pursue acting before turning 18. Perry admitted that she wasn't confident in her acting during high school. She began doing it to meet new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry following her graduation from Boston University moved to New York in search of television roles. Her small part was on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness brought her back to California for theater roles. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013. Perry was in the show with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry starred in nine episodes in 2016 of the ABC drama The Family. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC Drama Scandal. The character she played was the younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off series that was part of the CBS show The Big Bang Theory was another younger portrayal of her mother. She was cast in the role through an open audition despite having a connection to the character.
